Our Approach

Performance is the starting point. Responsibility is the outcome.

Responsibility is not a layer added to a finished boat. It is embedded in the decisions made before the first frame is laidEvery design decision at Gunboat follows a single logic: efficiency and excellence first. What results from that discipline is not a goal. It is a consequence.

SAIL FIRST. ALWAYS.

A wind-first platform. Engineered to perform where others wait.

Lightwind performance is the direct result of disciplined weight management, structural stiffness, optimized hull geometry, and a sail plan calibrated to respond to the smallest pressure change.

A stiff carbon structure transfers more energy from wind into forward motion. Refined appendage design reduces drag. Lightweight composites reduce the mass that must be accelerated. These decisions work as a system; and that system extends range under sail into conditions where other boats reach for the throttle.

The result is measurable: more time under sail, less reliance on mechanical propulsion, lower energy consumption across the life of the boat. Not because we intended it. Because we engineered for performance, and efficiency followed.

Sail more. Motor less. A design outcome.

BUILT IN FRANCE. TO ONE STANDARD.

Location is not a detail. It is a specification.

All Gunboats are built in La Grande-Motte, France, in a single controlled industrial environment. French standards require documented risk assessment, formal quality control protocols, and full traceability across the build sequence.

These define the baseline and the starting point for what we hold ourselves to above it.

A single site means full proximity between design, engineering, and the build floor. Real-time alignment between the people who designed the boat and the people who build it.

One location, with one standard. No approximation.

BUILT WITH TRUSTED PARTNERS. CLOSE.

A boat is only as responsible as the choices made before it is built.

Partners are co-authors of every build. Gunboat’s ecosystem is built around proven expertise validated through offshore racing before it was ever considered for a cruising platform: composite engineering, naval architecture, high-performance rigging.

Every partner is assessed against defined specifications, audited, and held to tolerances that eliminate rework. When a component is built correctly the first time, less is corrected. Less is wasted. A short supply chain is an accountability structure, and a direct reduction in material waste.

We improve continuously. We do not experiment at the expense of the owner.

BUILT TO LAST. FAR BEYOND A SEASON.

True longevity starts long before the boat touches the water.

Every Gunboat is developed through a fully integrated engineering system: complete 3D modeling down to system routing, real-time tracking of materials and weight, and over 1,300 validation checkpoints across each hull. Every structural parameter is confirmed before the next layer is added.

This discipline exists to eliminate inefficiencies before they become problems. A stiff structure loses no energy to flex, requires less maintenance, and holds its performance profile year after year. Not a warranty statement, but a precision engineering standard: one that governs material selection, laminate schedule, and system architecture.

The goal is not performance for a season. It is longevity.

What you choose to own matters.

A hull engineered to sail in 5 knots of breeze. A structure built to last forty years. A build process with zero approximation, from material sourcing to final delivery.

When you choose a Gunboat, responsibility is already inside it. You don’t have to ask for it. It was designed to it.
